The Cornish Rex Cat breed actually started as one of the few wonderful accidents of nature. In 1950, a genetic mutation happened in a kitten liter somewhere in the United Kingdom. The result? Kittens of fine and curly hair were created. The kittens are very much different from the rest of the cats then, which usually have of thick coats.
Interestingly, even the whiskers of the kittens were wavy. Breeders find the breed quite fascinating that they decided to selectively breed them. They proceeded to inbred and crossbred them with other cat species. This is the reason why the coat and hair of Cornish Rex is a combination of many patterns and colors.

Cornish Rex cats are generally small, although there are medium-sized ones too. They are sleek and slender cats with an average lifespan of thirteen years. This breed of cats has very thin bones and lean muscles. Expect them to weigh heavier than they looked. Cornish Rex cats maybe popular for its cheesy odor, but they can't really help it because it comes from their scent glands located in the their paws.

If you are allergic to cat hairs but still want to own one, a Cornish Rex may work for you. This breed shed very little and does all the grooming themselves. Cornish Rex cats are very mischievous, social, snooping, and of course, loving. But even if they can really be active at times, you can catch them all curled up and fast asleep either on the liter or on the couch.

Cornish Rex likes to be groomed and pet. But owners are advised against it, as brisk brushing can damage their hair. Pet and groom these cats sparingly and very gently. Do make sure that they are inside the house at all times, because they feel chilly very easily. Always check your Cornish Rex if it is balding. Cornish Rex breed is very prone to hypotrichosis.
